  • Fort Belvoir Fire History

Over the next couple of months there will be information, pictures and articles posted onto this page that shows the history of the Fort Belvoir (Camp Humphreys) Fire Department. It will go from the beggining in 1918 when there was only a handful of firefighters and almost two thousand hand pails, to today where we currently have 119 firefighters, four engines, two trucks, two ARFF units, and a light and air unit.

Today, many things that we do are passed down from the ones that served before us. Anything from red fire trucks, evolved fire trucks and SCBA's. This adventure through time is going to be a slow one but stay tuned as the history is discovered.

Attached is a fire report from 1918. It really shows a difference between then and now.

The U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps purchased at least two Robinson pumpers for use during WW I.  The pumper is a 1917 Robinson while the vehicle on the right is a 1918 Dodge-Northern type "K" chemical rig.  The doughboys here are stationed at Camp Humphreys, Virginia.
